Board & Train

Our Board & Train program is an immersive, in-home training experience where your dog stays with us for an agreed-upon time to receive consistent, hands-on training.

A Board & Train is not a quick fix — it’s an investment. Think of it as time for your dog to develop a solid foundation that you’ll build on after the program is complete.

Each Board & Train includes one detailed go-home session (2–3 hours) on pick-up day, plus up to two follow-up lessons to help you maintain your dog’s progress moving forward.

Board & Train programs are available for dogs 6 months and older and typically run 4–8 weeks, depending on the dog’s needs.

Our 2025 programs are fully booked. We are now accepting reservations for 2026. If you’d like to book for 2026, please fill out our training questionnaire and feel free to email us at info@hutterk9.com for program dates.

  • Please note: For the safety of our team, we are currently not accepting cases involving aggression or severe resource guarding. These services will be available starting in 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Unlike many board & train programs that take on a large number of dogs at one time, we intentionally limit our program to no more than two dogs at a time. This smaller capacity ensures that your dog receives significantly more individual time with us and our team every single day — more training, more attention, and more consistency.

This personalized approach takes more time and resources, but it also leads to clearer communication, stronger foundations, and better long-term results.

  • Yes! A Board & Train is an investment in your relationship with your dog. You’re not just paying for weeks of training — you’re setting your dog up for a lifetime of success. We teach your dog to make better choices, and we teach you how to maintain those skills so you can enjoy a calm, confident companion for years to come.

  • At Hutter K9, we focus on clear, balanced communication. We start by teaching with food rewards, play, and clear markers so your dog learns what we want in a positive, low-pressure way. Once your dog understands, we layer in the Martin System® e-collar at very low levels to reinforce commands and build a foundation for off-leash reliability.

This isn’t about punishment — it’s about creating a shared language that works in the real world, even when squirrels, kids, or new environments compete for your dog’s attention.

  • An e-collar, like any tool, depends on how it’s used. We use Martin System® e-collars because they are the most advanced, reliable, and humane technology on the market. Their patented design ensures consistent, gentle contact no matter if your dog is wet or dry, and the Finger Kick option allows us (and eventually you) to integrate training seamlessly into daily life without constantly holding a remote.

The e-collar is introduced at a level so low that most people can’t feel it themselves. It becomes a clear, neutral cue to help your dog make good choices — not a punishment. This creates freedom and safety for your dog and peace of mind for you.

  • Consistency matters. A Board & Train program allows your dog to live in a structured environment where every moment of the day reinforces good behavior. That kind of immersion is hard to recreate at home with normal distractions.

During their stay, your dog will get:

    • Daily training sessions

    • Structured socialization and outings

    • Crate and household manners

    • Clear communication that builds confidence

When your dog comes home, you’ll receive a detailed go-home session and follow-up lessons so you know exactly how to maintain their new skills.

  • Absolutely. Your dog becomes part of our daily life while they’re here. They have structure, exercise, enrichment, and calm downtime. We keep you updated with progress videos and photos so you can see the transformation happening.

We know it’s hard to be apart, but when they come home, you’ll see why the time away was worth it.

  • You could, but it would likely take years to get the same results. Training involves timing, consistency, and experience. Improper use of tools like an e-collar can also create confusion or fear in your dog if not introduced correctly.

When your dog stays with us, they benefit from expert handling, a controlled environment, and clear structure. You’ll get back a dog who is more confident, better behaved, and ready to thrive with you — and you’ll know exactly how to keep building on their progress.
